Rick Santorum Biography
Rick Santorum is universally recognized as a steadfast leader and defender of the first principles upon which our nation was founded. He champions the intrinsic value of the human person as the founding principle of conservatism.
Rick was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1990 at the age of 32, defeating a seven-term incumbent. From 1995 through 2007, Rick served in the United States Senate after defeating a heavily favored incumbent and was re-elected for a second term in 2000, when he was chosen by his Senate colleagues to serve as Conference Chairman, making him the youngest member of the Senate Republican leadership.
As a strong advocate for the most vulnerable in our society, Rick worked to pass legislation outlawing the heinous procedure known as Partial Birth Abortion, championed the successful fight to pass the “Born Alive Infant Protection Act,” the “Unborn Victims of Violence Act,” and the “Combating Autism Act.” Rick also became one of the most successful government reformers in our history, by helping to expose the House Banking and House Post Office scandals as well as authoring the landmark 1996 Welfare Reform Act.
Also, an accomplished author, Rick penned the 2005 New York Times Best Seller, It Takes a Family.
Rick is now a Senior Fellow at The Ethics and Public Policy Center, the Friday host of Bill Bennett’s Morning in America nationally-syndicated radio program, a contributor on the Fox News Channel, a columnist with The Philadelphia Inquirer, and President of Reston, VA-based MPower Media. Of all his accomplishments, Rick is most proud of his role as a husband and father. Rick and his wife Karen are the parents of seven wonderful children: Elizabeth, John, Daniel, Sarah Maria, Peter, Patrick and Bella.
