The following student report was submitted by Ambassador League Agent Carri C. during the 2007-2008 League.

My Ambassador League Experience

I have really enjoyed being an agent in the Ambassador League. It has changed my life, and I learned a lot of things about myself that I didn't know before. Before I begin this paper, I want to express my deep appreciation for Mr. Muffett and the staff of the Ambassador League. They all survived my many emails and questions and I know that they work very hard every week to make this all possible. Without them I would never have learned all the things that I did.

When I first signed up for the Ambassador League, I thought I could get it all done very easily. Little did I know that my junior year would be full of activities. And, not realizing how much there was to do for the Am. League, I decided to wait until summer to work on it; not the best choice to make. So when summer came I began to work on the activities. I attended a Senate Session and Committee Meeting, a local judicial trial, and a local school board meeting. Those activities got me excited and wanting to do more.

The Bible word studies sort of scared me at first, I have studied the Bible in different ways, but never like this. So my first study seemed long and arduous. I was fairly confused throughout the entire thing but, once I was done, I felt better and wanted to do more. From then on I tried to do as many Bible studies as I could, and they were very interesting. My parents have always told me to study the Bible for myself and not just to take what someone says as true. And after the second word study, I found myself hungering to do more and to learn more.

Another thing that I enjoyed a lot was the interviews. Some of the people that I interviewed were friends of the family and some of them were complete strangers, so it was very interesting to hear about what they do, how they do it, and how they live out their faith in their job. Some of the interviews were long and some were short, depending on how nervous the person was. But it was still very enjoyable.

The letters to the editor were actually rather hard for me, because I wasn't sure what to write about. And even though I would go through the newspaper everyday, I just couldn't find anything that sparked my interest. Eventually some letters formed.

Unfortunatly I was unable to do any book reports. I began reading the book "Why I am a Christian" but was unable to finish it or move on to any other books, although I really would have liked to.

One of the best things to do, I think, was the community service and social action hours. If you read my reports you would understand how much those hours impacted me, spiritually and personally. And I am hoping to do many more hours of service in the future.

My mentor was Mr. Kevin Cook, a firefighter and my basketball coach. I thought he would be a great mentor because he was in a profession that I wanted to go into, and I've known their family for a long time, so I know what they believe in and how they live out their faith. They have all been a great encouragement to me ever since I first met them.

I was only able to have two meetings with Mr. Cook, and that was my fault, because when I first signed up for the Ambassador League, I didn't really think that it was that important. Now, I realize that it would have been a great help. In the two meetings that we did have, we accomplished a lot, and I enjoyed them very much. Mr. Cook was a great help suggesting ideas for interviews, political service, correcting some mistakes and suggesting different ways of doing things. I am extremely grateful for his help and for his willingness to take time out of his day to meet with me.

The Ambassador League has helped me in many ways. I never realized that I could write a fairly good report so easily, and I had always hated writing reports before. So throughout this whole experience I have learned how to write a good report and how to make it interesting. And some of the thanks goes to my mother, because she is the one who proof reads my reports, tells me what is wrong, and gives me more ideas. I greatly appreciate my mothers help through all of this, She has gone to meetings with me, suggested ideas for all the activities, and faxed all my verification forms in, all with no complaints.

The Ambassador League has also helped me to become more of a leader. I am more confident of myself and with my decisions. I am not afraid to call someone up to ask if I could interview them or if I could help out for community service. I am not as nervous asking questions, and I am more excited about government activities that I can participate in.

I have also enjoyed getting to know Mr. Muffett, not only at SSI summer camp, but over our emails. I sent him many emails that had many questions, and he was always very helpful and never complained, even when I sent him 3 emails in one hour with about 20 questions. I am very thankful that I met him and I am grateful that God has put a man who is so on fire for God in my life.
