Biblical Research on "Ten Commandments"

When you were young, your parents probably rewarded you for doing things that they told you. "If you eat all your dinner, you can have desert." If you take out the trash, you can play your video games." This helped motivate you to do the task assigned to you. It is the same way with God. For some of the things He tells us to do, He gives us a direct promise to go along with it. But some things we have to do just because we know that if we want to spend eternity with our Savior, we have to obey his commandments. To love is to obey, so if we love Christ, we will obey Him.

John 14:15 - "If you love me, you will follow my commandments."

1 John 5:3 - "Loving God means obeying His commandments."

Even though we already know that we have to obey God, He gives us some specific blessings for following His laws. We serve such an amazing God! He blesses us so much!

Psalm 119:1 - "Happy are those who follow the Lord's teachings."

God gave ten specific rules to Moses for the people. One of them promises us a long, fulfilled life. We just need to do one simple thing - honor our fathers and mothers.

Exodus 20:12 - "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you."

Ephesians 6:2-3 - "Honor your father and mother - which is the first commandment with a promise: that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

One of the best things that we get for obeying God's commandments is the privilege of spending eternal life with Him.

Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter."

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 - "Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God?

Following His laws is one of the main ways that you show God that you love Him. If you had a friend or a family member who never listened to what you had to say, would you feel like they loved you? But because our God is so wonderful, He also blesses us when we follow His laws. Just as a parent rewards their children, our heavenly father rewards us when we choose to obey Him.
