My SSI Experience
It was my first time at a summer camp and I was very nervous. The year before I had hesitantly attended an on-site Student Statesmanship Institute camp. It was required for my speech class that I attend, and at the end of the second day I was so thrilled with what I had accomplished that I was determined to go to the summer camp. I knew this wouldn't be a normal camp, but I was not prepared for the wonderful Christian atmosphere, excellent teaching sessions and lasting memories with which I would walk away.
I've attended weekend Christian camps but I always came back wondering, "And why do they call this Christian?" Attending SSI was the exact opposite! During my stay, I enjoyed the early morning Bible Studies, sessions on the Christian faith and having fun with other Christian teens. The ADC's and other camp helpers encouraged all of the girls to be modest and pure throughout the week and for the rest of their lives. During my stay, I was challenged to focus more on God's plan for my life then MY own agenda.
The teaching sessions really challenged me to defend my faith, study the Bible, and learn about my destiny. Before coming to SSI, I really didn't understand all of the work behind a bill and the legislation process. Ever since attending camp, I have been so excited to start campaigning and helping our state and country in any way I can. I am even considering going into politics when I graduate.
I also walked away from camp with some of the best memories. I made wonderful, godly friendships and had tons of fun playing soccer and other sports/activities with the rest of the teens.
SSI was over and above what I imagined. The Christian atmosphere, teaching and lasting memories make it the best camp in my opinion. I am definitely attending again next year and have been telling all my friends to do the same. Thank-you for this wonderful opportunity.
