The following student report was submitted by Ambassador League Agent -agent- during the 2007-2008 League.
When we go to a candy store, or the local gas station, what candy bar is always there? It's a staple to the American society. The Reeses Peanut Butter Cup is such a staple. If it was just a lump of chocolate or just a lob of peanut butter it would not sell! It's only when the chocolate and peanut butter are joined by the seal of a candy bar wrapper that the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup is of great value.
The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines marriage as: the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. It also defines sanctity as: the quality or state of being holy or sacred.
Second Corinthians - Chapter 6:14-16 "Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can goodness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the Devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God's temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: 'I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.'" Ok, so we need to be aware and be equally yoked when we are married. For example an unbeliever and believer just create so much tension. Trust me on this one, I've seen it. God knew what he was talking about!
Malachi - Chapter 2:14-16 "...the Lord is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. . . Has not the Lord made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. "I hate divorce," says the Lord God." Marriage is special to God and he doesn't take it lightly. Saying that you hate something is very strong verb usage, and Jesus plainly said, "I hate divorce." Alright, so now that you're married, you need to stay married. Divorce isn't something to play with. It rips families apart and tears children down.
Ephesians - Chapter 4:2-3 "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."
Ephesians - Chapter 5:31-33 "As the Scriptures say, "A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one." This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."
Now we are talking about something much more serious than candy bars. Marriage is the union of two people, two lives coming together as one. It's more than just one day, with a pretty dress and a big party. It's a serious lifetime commitment.
