Attending School Board Meeting
I attended the school board meeting on __________ with my mentor, Teresa McKay. The school board meeting, was, very interesting. One thing on the agenda, was new text books. After watching a power point of the several lengthy reasons why the teacher wanted new text books, I was prepared to pay for the books myself if the teacher would just stop talking. We also heard from the student of the week, and the update from the football coach on their next game. We also heard about the author's month for the elementary children, and their visit from severl prominent authors, along with an update on how the latest field trips/fundraisers have gone. The school board meeting was very long and I was suprised at how organized it was. This wasn't just a casual meeting with a small audience, it was actually a very professional atomosphere. The meeting was very formal, and I was very impressed. I was also suprised at the number of people that came simply to observe the meeting. It was refreshing to see so many people (roughly thirty) taking an interest in what is happening at their schools. Now if we can just channel that intrest into their legislature we'll be doing very well.
