Interview with English teacher Bethany Hardy
English teacher Bethany Hardy graduated from Calvin College with a master's degree in education. She has been teaching for ten years. Hardy is now married and has two wonderful children.
Q What motivated you to seek your current position?
A I became a teacher because I had a teacher at every grade level when I was growing up that made English and writing fun and doable they inspired me to one day do the same for others. My previous teachers were my motivation to become a teacher and I love working with kids.
Q What training do you think is important for your position?
A You have to be around students you need training on how to read kids. You have to have a caring heart because if you care for the kids they trust you more you have to be a professional and learn when it is the right time to speak on some things.
Q What are the greatest rewards of your job?
A Being able to see my students everyday is unquestionably one of the greatest rewards of my job. I love to see them smile I love it when I read their writing and I love to see them try and eventually achieve. Being able to create a relationship with my students is a reward that makes me happy about my job each day.
Q What are the biggest challenges in your job?
A One of the biggest challenges with my job is properly handling the politics outside of school and learning how to bite my tongue. Test scores are not where the school of board would like them so they tend to blame the teachers for the low test scores. As a teacher that tells me that they truly don't understand how much time and dedication I put into my student's education and their futures.
Q What role does your faith play in your profession?
A My faith plays a very important roll in my job, without my faith I don't believe that I would be as great of a teacher I am today.
