Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I read in the Battle Creek Enquirer that Sen. Cameron Brown recently introduced legislation allowing teens to pre-register to vote when receiving drivers' licenses. The bill is similar to one of the election-related reforms unveiled by Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.

As a 16 year old, I view this sensible legislation as a positive step forward. The proposal involves little to no extra work on the part of the state or teens, and it encourages people of my age group to exercise their voting rights.

At the very least this innovative plan would raise awareness among teens about their privilege to vote. Ideally, it could spur greater youth turnout and cause more to become actively involved in the political process. This bill is a political slam-dunk and deserves swift approval.

Sincerely,

Zachary W.
