Campaign Volunteering Report
Although it took several months, I have finally accrued the necessary ten hours of campaign volunteering hours. In the course of completing this assignment, I developed some good relationships and had a fun time.
The first few hours were spent doing that most engaging of all tasks: data entry. Under the auspices of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee, I completed several jobs related to campaign finance and fundraising. Glamorous? Hardly, but in the words of Clint Eastwood "Somebody's gotta do it!
The rest of my volunteering was a bit more interesting. I participated in two parades handing out fliers and candy for Representative Kevin Green. The first parade, Cutlerville Daze, took place on a sunny Saturday, June 14. It was my first time as a member of the "Green Team", and I enjoyed it. I handed out brochures for Kevin, while other volunteers passed out candy and American flags.
The second parade was Byron Center Daze on July 26. This time, I handed out coloring books and candy, making me an instant celebrity in the eyes of all the kids at the parade (it was rough, all those adoring young fans.). Immediately afterward, the volunteers had lunch together. It was a good chance to interact and meet with other Green helpers.
All in all, the whole experience was fun and I look forward to doing it again. Volunteering on a political campaign allows you to meet new people and occasionally learn new skills. It is time well spent.
