Mission: Research - Lordship of Christ
What does Christ lordship over our lives mean? As I did this Bible study I learned a little bit better for myself what Gods lordship really is. Also practical ways I can show other people that God has Lordship over me and how they can have that to.
Letting God have Lordship over our lives is nice and has benefits but there are also responsibilities we have to take on. For example we learn from Psalm 123:2 says that God will show us mercy, but we have to depend on Him for His help. Forgiveness is another hard issue but if we learn to forgive, God will have mercy on us.
If we really love God and want his lordship in our lives then we need to be willing to pick up our cross and follow him Luke 8:34b. John 13:13-16 tells us that the Lord is our teacher. We must follow his example if we desire to be like Him. Without being saved God cannot have lordship over our lives. Romans 10:8-10 says that to be saved we have to declare with our mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts God raised Jesus from the dead.
Letting God have lordship over our lives means that he is in control of EVERYTHING from our future plans, our attitudes and relationships. For instance, we do not need to worry about our future plans God will give us hope and a good future, we just need to trust him with everything Jeremiah 29:11. As for working, in everything we do we need to work hard like we are working for God and not for man Colossians 3:23.(and in the long run we really are). Matthew 6:30 talks about setting our priorities straight and keeping God as our number one in our life no matter what.
Another hard issue where Christ's lordship is needed is school and education. the media and everyone tells us that it is no big deal so why even try but God tells us differently He’s God tells us in Luke 2:52 that we need to grow wiser and physically stronger as we mature. As far as finances go, we need to store up our treasures in heaven and not worry about all the material things, as it so clearly states in Matthew 6:19-21. Our society shoves in our heads that we should want to own a lot of possessions and that everything should be all about us, but 2 Corinthians 9:7 tell us a bit different it says that we need to give our treasure away - generously and cheerfully. We should not be giving to other people because we think we should or are obligated, but because it is the right thing to do.
I learned from this Bible study that I need to let God have control over EVERYTHING in my life. When I think I can do it all myself, I am just falling into Satan's trap and not letting Christ have lordship over me. The last thing I or anybody wants to do is to let Satan get his way. Even though giving everything to Christ and letting him have complete control over our lives might not be the easiest thing to do, it is so worth it in the end. We will be blessed beyond belief.
