Mission: Research - Truth

Truth is an absolute quality. In a sin-filled world, truth is stretched far and thin. For Christians, truth is the essential principle behind salvation. Without it, all of the certainties taught in the Bible would be void and meaningless.

In Deuteronomy 32:4 it says: "He is the Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."

God is described as a God of truth, whose word we may take and rely upon. He is also faithful to his promises and therefore cannot lie. With truth comes constancy, and therefore his warnings should be taken seriously.

Truth is defined many different ways in the dictionary. The first reference is an "actual state of matter." This is truth as all people know it. In regards to this earth, Christians know it through God’s Word. Those who do not put their faith in the Bible instead choose to believe in something else and many turn to science.

A lively debate arises between religious and scientific truth. Religious truth comes from being revealed or inspired by God. Scientific truth tries to approach truth through the scientific method. Christian Fundamentalism argues that scientific truth should accept religious truth on the basis that science is corrupt. Thus the conflict between religious and scientific truth continues.

Many ideas and philosophies claim to be the truth. It is a wonder to think that anything is genuinely and universally true. The Bible is the only reliable and complete source of truth. Psalm 100:5 gives us this promise. "For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."

God, in His Word, clearly lays out that He is the only source of truth in a sin-filled world. All the truths taught in the Bible are integrally tied to the fact that God Himself is true.

Psalm 25:10 says "All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies." This gives the believer assurance that through Christ there is eternal life. All of the world would be lost forever if the promises of the Bible were not absolutely true.

The Christian faith is a special faith because we know, through the infallible Word of God, that His truth will not suffer Him to change. The same commandments given by God at Mt. Sinai apply even today. These truths have not changed and will not in the future.

The powerful passage of John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" has stood for centuries. Just as truth in its purest form is the real state of things, biblical truths are the promises and judgments of a God who will never change.

May our prayer be with David in Psalm 86:11, "Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in they truth: unite my heart to fear they name."
