Mission: Research - Truth
What is truth? This is a question asked by millions of people, with many different answers. But only one answer is true! Jesus is the truth. He says 'I am the way, the truth and the life,' in the Bible, in John 14:6. The verse goes on to say, 'no one comes to the Father except through me.' In other words, Jesus is saying that no one comes to God except through truth. Some may wonder if it really is possible to know the truth. It is, John 8:32b says 'you shall know the truth' and because Jesus is the truth, you can get to know him through the Bible, God’s Word, which shows the way to know Jesus, the truth. God wants us to know the truth and be saved. The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:3-4. 'God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth and belief in the truth.' John 8:32 says, ‘because the truth will set us free.' How would I explain truth to a 5 year old? I would say, 'You know what is right.' If their reply is that they don’t know what is right, I would then ask, 'Well, how do you know that the grass is green? And how do you know that the sky is blue? It just is!' We know because we have the spirit of truth (John 14:7). Is truth relative? No, because it does not change. The concept of truth in this culture, as it teaches us, is ever changing: nothing is absolute, and in believing that we have exchanged truth for a lie (Rom.1:25). There are many people confused about what is true and what is not; it is because they don’t know what truth is and it has been thrown to the ground (Dan. 8:12). Our opinions don't matter... truth never changes and it never ceases of pointing to God and His Word. Truth does not depend on this or that. If I were to say 'I don’t believe this thing - it’s simply not true!' I would be wrong because truth does not change, no matter how convincing something might sound. God commands us to walk in the truth. Jesus says in 2 John Verse 4, 'It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commands us.' 2 Corinthians 13:8 tells us, 'We cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.' This verse should compel us to action... spreading the truth!
