Mission: Take Action - Letter to the Editor #5
Submitted to Time Magazine, in reponse to the the article Briefing - The Moment: Afghanistan
I was enlightened by this week’s Briefing on the president’s efforts in Afghanistan. Obama’s plans look stable, well-organized and they seem to have potential for success. Overall, I have not been an Obama supporter, but your article gave me a glimpse at something new about Obama, something human.
For months, he has only been a face to me. He came off as the new Jesus Christ, the savior of America. He was a negative label that I wanted to support in no way at all. But then I read in your article that Obama is personally handwriting letters of sympathy and gratitude to the families who lost their sons and daughters in the war in Iraq. This kind of leadership is rare. And it’s refreshing to know that he cares enough about the individuals to take time out of his day for each one.
