Mission: Research - Lordship of Christ

God is sovereign over all creation. He is completely worthy of our obedience and praise. There are many names for God including Jehovah and Adonai. The name Jehovah means self-existent, while Adonai means Master. God the Father is Jehovah and Adonai, therefore, His Son is also, and we should worship and obey both of them because They are Lord.

The name Jehovah, when used in the bible refers to an absolutely self-existent being, the one who in Himself possesses essential life and has permanent existence. In Exodus, Moses is speaking to Jehovah and God refers to himself as "I Am who I Am and that He told Moses to tell the sons of Israel that I AM has sent you." It is amazing how God is so powerful that people would know who He is just by the name, "I Am". Jesus Christ is also Jehovah, in John 8:58 Jesus is speaking to the Jews and tells them " Before Abraham was born, I am.". God the Father, and God the Son, are both Jehovah and they do not change, Jehovah is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to the thousands, forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. He does not leave the guilty unpunished.

Another name for God is Adonai, meaning master. Matthew 7:21 it says, that not all who call on the name of the Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do the will of the Father in Heaven. Matt 7:7 however, states that if you seek you will find and everyone who asks will receive. This puzzled me greatly. How is it that not all who call on the name of the Lord will enter Heaven but everyone who asks will receive? Then I realized that it depends on the sincerity of your heart. He doesn't want a lip service or false promises. Instead, He wants your full and undivided heart. He is a jealous God (Deut. 6:15) and is worthy of much more than a prayer every now and then when we are in trouble. When a person becomes a Christian that person doesn't just say a prayer he is giving his life over to Christ and knowingly becoming a servant of God. Now no one is perfect but Christians have the Holy spirit and are therefore able to do good things, but we are granted the choice to do the right thing, or follow our sinful nature. We most definitely do not lose our salvation when we sin, but as we grow in Christ we should progressively sin less and less. God wants us to strive after him and to completely turn away from sin.

I am thankful for having a God that is all-powerful and ruler over all. It is amazing how a self-sufficient God would care about the billions of souls that are so unwilling to follow Him. He could send another flood to wipe us out if he wanted to and start all over again. Thankfully He is a compassionate and gracious God who is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). Jehovah and Adonai are the same and will never change, and those who claim to be Christians should be following hard after Christ.

Christ Jehovah - absolutely self-existent, the One who in himself possesses essential life, permanent existence. I AM who I AM. Doesn't change, Compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to the thousands, forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. He does not leave the guilty unpunished. God the Father and God the Son are both Jehovah. is Lord and Master over all. There is nothing above Him. Jehovah is absolutely self-existent, the One who in himself possesses essential life.

Adonai-Master

God requires the sincerity of our hearts not just a lip service. When a person becomes a Christian we need to go into the relationship with a servants heart. Good works do not save you but when you become saved you will want to do good works for the glory and honor of Christ. It's easy to say a prayer but it is much harder to live a life worthy of the Lord. (Col. 9:10) In Titus 3 it says "He saved us not because of the righteous things we have done but because of His mercy-but those who have trusted in God should be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good." Jesus should be the Lord and Master over our whole lives. He is creator and master over the whole universe and we need to be willing to trust our lives to Him.
