Mission: Research - Truth

What is truth? Can we know it? God's word is truth (John 17:17) and Jesus is truth (John 14:6). So we can definitely know truth because we can know God who is the founder of the truth. If we have Jesus in our life He tells us that we have been given His Holy Spirit who will be our guide in deciphering what is true.

So why do people have such a hard time discovering the truth? Many times when we are confronted with the truth we don't like it, or it is just to hard to hear. So we run away from it pretending like the truth is not important.

If you believe in Christ and have trusted him to be your Lord and Savior you know the truth. There is a difference though of knowing the truth and putting it into practice. Many Christians still get the truth confused. Why is this? It is a very hard thing to know the truth when you are not in it. So when a Christian is not in God's word of truth it is very easy to confuse the truth with lies. As Christians we need to be in God's word. We need to be learning it for ourselves not just hearing it from others, but looking at it deeply with the help of the Holy Spirit. As Christians we are given the command to guard the truth (2 Tim 1:14), to walk in it, testify to it (3 John 3-4), and to handle it accurately (2 Tim. 2:15). We need to speak up for the truth, and we need to live it. So many times Christians say things but do the exact opposite. God wants us to walk in the truth. He wants us to be an example of what truth is. We need to accurately handle the truth by presenting it with love ( Eph. 4:14-15).

God desires all men to come to the truth (1 Tim. 2:3-4). He sent His only son to earth, to die a terrible and cruel death, that all may know the truth and that we would be set free by it (John 8:32). Knowing the truth should compel us to action, but so many times we take it for granted and waste our ability to fully know the truth and to share it. Truth is no longer looked for or thought of as valuable. It has perished (Jer. 7:27-28), people have turned there ears from it (2 Tim 4:3-4), and satan has flung it to the ground (Daniel 8:12). Instead of it have incredible worth we are willing to discard it for a bunch of lies. Christians need to stand up for the truth and not ever sit down.

God wants us to dwell on the truth (Phil. 4:8), and to stand firm in it (Eph 6:14). It is very easy to be fooled into believing lies, but as Christians who have the spirit of truth we need to be ready to judge what is truth and what is lies. We need to buy the truth and not sell it (Prov 23:23). Truth should be our most valuable possession. We need to search for it, to seek after it. We should not be willing to cast it aside, or to part with it. Truth should be so important to us. Jesus didn't just tell the truth, He lived the truth, and He is truth. He should be our most prized possession. We need to understand that the Bible is truth. We need to soak it up and know it, so that when the truth is tested we will be able to stand up under all the lies and put forth the truth.
