Mission: Research - Homosexuality
Homosexuality is a subject that has created quite a stir in the church over the past few years. This is what God says about it in Leviticus 20:13: "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them."
Some may think this is a bit harsh. Some may also question if this is truly God because the Lord is a loving God. It is important to remember that while God is loving, He also has a sense of justice. Consider Genesis 19: 24: "Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; that recompene of their error which was meet." This Old Testament verse indicates a person that does something wrong must pay the consequences.
In Romans 1:22-27 it says: "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools and changed the glory of the ncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."
This hit me hard. It's the same as putting God in a box and therefore constraining what He can do in our lives. True wisdom is only found in God and when we as humans stray from this mindset we get ourselves in to trouble.
The first chapter of Romans continues: "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves."
There is a point where God sees where we've gone and says "go your own way, I will not have a part in it." He gives us up to our sin. That sin engulfs us so that we no longer know the truth nor can we see the love that God has for us.
In Romans 1:25 it says that (they) "changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen." This demonstrates how sinful people can take things that God has meant for good and turn them into evil.
The next verse adds: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature."
When God made the Earth, He intended for things to be done in a certain way. We as humans tend to do things the exact opposite.
And verse 27 adds: "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves."
The conclusion is that God hates homosexuality. But that does not mean that all hope is lost. God has made atonement for our sin through the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed upon the cross. Through Him and only through Him can we have eternal life.
