Mission: Research - Truth

What is truth? Webster's Dictionary describes it as "a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality" and also explains truth as "of being in accord with fact or reality."

Consider this illustration and the insight it gives about truth. A group of people are sitting around in a circle. In the middle is a $100 bill. If each person is asked to describe something about this piece of currency, it is probable that everyone will describe something different. Is only one of them right? No, because one person is not going to see the whole picture at a glance. Unless a person can see the whole picture it is difficult to fully explain the entire truth.

Job 28:24 says: "For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens." God knows the truth; it’s in His very essence. John 14:6 says: "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'" He is the truth. Without Him there would be no truth, no way to discern right from wrong.

Man's eyes are too often clouded by greed, pride, and the things of this world. In 1 Samuel 16:7 it says: "But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'" God sees what we cannot. He comprehends the entire picture, down to the very last detail. A relationship with Him is essential to understanding the truth.

This does not mean that we will see what the truth is. That is something you have to acquire; the Bible says in Proverbs 23:23: "Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding." Truth is something you have to search for, finding it can be more difficult than one would think.

When Pilate was questioning Jesus before Christ’s crucifixion in John 18:37, it says: "Pilate therefore said to Him, 'So You are a king?' Jesus answered, 'You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.' Pilate said to Him, 'What is truth?' And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them'I find no guilt in Him.' Many, like Pilate do not understand the truth, they follow what they think is right instead of seeking God’s word for guidance.

I strongly believe that our country has come to this place were "ies and not truth prevail in the land." In Jeremiah 9:3 it says: "They bend their tongue like their bow; lies and not truth prevail in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know Me, declares the Lord."

Can our nation avert the catastrophes that are surely coming because of sin? Yes. We as Christians can avert the evil that has swept across this land. Our vision must go beyond what we can see with our eyes. We must look to the One who can guide our hearts to see clearly the path before us. "But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18)

We shall become like Him "for we shall see Him as He is," constantly growing closer to the knowledge of what the truth is and the affect that is has on our lives.
