Mission: Research - Sexuality
Homosexuality has become the political and the moral catch phrase of the day. More and more the lines of morality have been blurred in our society, until there is little distinction between what is right and what isn’t. Some Churches have waged a war of hatred against homosexuals. Others have gone to the opposite end of the spectrum, allowing their ordination as clergy within the Church body. What stance is a Christian to take in society?
"Then the LORD God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him…' And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man."
First, we must recognize that when God made the helper fit for Adam, He created a woman, not a man. In the scriptures, every time God moved to bring two people together into matrimony, it was between a man and a woman.
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22
God is very clear that homosexuality is a sin in the scriptures. Never does he condone it.
"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (ESV)
We also must realize that all sexual sins are wrong and dangerous. Since fewer people within the church struggle with homosexuality than other sexual sins, it is often the easiest sin to single out. But while it is wrong, so is adultery. So are all the sexual sins. While homosexuality is physically unnatural, sexual sins as a whole are spiritually unnatural. The sexual sins wreak havoc on a person and their spiritual health.
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."
God did not intend man to cleave to man, nor did he ever condone anything of the sort.
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22
God is very clear that homosexuality is a sin.
Neither hatred nor indifference is the answer. Thankfully, there is nothing so great that it can’t be washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ. Homosexuality is a sin, but all have sinned. We all need God’s salvation.
