The following student report was submitted by Ambassador League Agent Paul P. during the 2008-2009 League.
Mission: Tactics - Promote SSI
Well, I'm glad I did it, but I'm also glad it's done. Promoting SSI was one of the more unique tasks I've been given. This agent's mission was successful, thank goodness.
I was given the opportunity to promote SSI at a large book sale, taking place at a local Homeschool group. There were around forty families who were selling, each having their own table. Needless to say, it was a very busy book sale.
After setting up the TV the Homeschool administrator had kindly let me borrow, and after setting up the paper materials on my own table, I was ready to roll. Mostly. I have to admit, the task of promoting SSI seemed quite daunting to me.
There were people that came over to the SSI table by themselves, but for the most part, I had to go out and find people myself. Unfortunately, the first time I tried to explain what SSI was to one of the people at the sale I did so rather poorly. I fear that person won't be going to SSI this summer. But as time went on, I became more and more confident (not pushy, mind you, just confident). That confidence helped fuel the interest of at least several potential "SSIers."
I don't know if I could call this a problem, but around half of the people I talked with had already been a part of SSI in the past. Even though it was good that so many had heard, it made spreading the news slightly more difficult. After all, spreading news where it is already sown tends not to have the same effect (incidentally, they all thought the program was excellent). While I was promoting SSI, I bumped into someone who had been part of the weeklong program at the same time as I. It's always enjoyable to rediscover people from the past.
After completing this project, I realize that this confidence and experience that I've gained is something that I will be able to carry with me my entire life. Just as confidence made the difference for showing the impact SSI has on student, it also will make a difference in revealing the impact Christ can have on people. But then, that's what SSI is all about, isn’t it?
