Mission: Read - Book Report on Roaring Lambs by Bob Briner
Roaring lambs was written by Bob Briner in 1993. It is a book that encourages Christians to evangelize no matter what position they hold. Mr. Briner explains what it means to be the salt of the earth. He clarifies the common misconception that to do God's work, you must work in a ministry. He informs the reader about his personal journey, and about how he became a roaring lamb. All through the book he tells the stories of people who have broadened their horizons, to become missionaries in places where not many Christians are spreading the gospel. He chronicles their lives and contribution to career fields within the entertainment industry including actors, authors, and those involved in the arts.
The concept of the book was excellent. I especially enjoyed it because of my interest in pursing a career in communications. Bob Briner does a great job of illustrating the importance of evangelizing in that field of work. He makes it clear that Christians have not had much of a positive influence in movies and television. Mr. Briner suggests that Christians should put less attention and money into boycotting media, and instead put our attention into the production of entertainment that glorifies God. He also made a statement in the book that stood out to me: sitting in the pews wringing our hands about the decay in the world is not being salt. Neither is decrying the evil without offering positive alternatives. Mr. Briner suggests that, instead of talking about all the things that are wrong, we should produce something that is good.
Mr. Briner's idea of a Roaring Lamb's hall of fame was excellent. Awards should be given out annually to Christians who are making a difference. There has been progress in the entertainment spectrum; and there are many people who would qualify for the award. Today we have numerous movies with a Christian message such as Fireproof, The Passion of the Christ, and the Love Comes Softly series.
I am very glad I chose to read this book. It is inspiring and well written. I have already recommended it and will continue to. It is spiritually refreshing, and I plan to read the sequel, Final Roar. While researching more about Mr. Briner I learned that, sadly, he is no longer with us. However, his book left a lasting impact on me, and I am grateful.
