Mission: Research on "Justice"

When Solomon was told by God to ask for whatever he wanted, Solomon asked for discernment in administering justice. According to Kings 3:10-12 (NIV), "The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. "

Governments have been put in place in order to administer justice. According to Thomas Jefferson, "The most sacred of the duties of a government [is] to do equal and impartial justice to all its citizens." The Constitution of the United States, in reference to the King of Great Britain states: "He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers." The framers of our Constitution experienced a lack of justice, which lead to the tea parties of old, and the birth of our nation.

While many laws being established by man today pervert justice, the Bible clearly states that true justice can only come from the Lord. The reason that we see so many unjust laws and legislative decisions is because many judges and law makers have rejected the Biblical foundations which our founding fathers intended our laws to be based upon. Unlike Solomon who used God’s wisdom to administer justice, many of today’s judges attempt to diminish God’s role in our governance; however, in Proverbs 29:26 (NIV), the Lord says, "Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the LORD that man gets justice." Although true justice can only come from the Lord, it is our responsibility to elect leaders who will follow His established laws, and administer sound justice.

The Micah mandate states, (Micah 6:8) "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
