Mission: Tactics - SSI Promotion

I volunteered to help promote SSI at the Homeschooling Works Book Fair. This book fair is held once a year in Farmington Hills, MI. Vendors coming from many areas of the country in order to sell their homeschool curriculums, products, and services. One of my favorite vendors was Turtlebee Farms. The farm is owned and operated by my SSI roommate's family. There are also used books, and other great bargains available to those who arrive early. The workshops are also included in the price of admission.

I had attended the convention before, so I was familiar with the kind of work that I would be doing. Before attending SSI, I had received information from the SSI display table. I knew that the information provided would be very helpful

I met with Mr. Visscher, and three other volunteers at the SSI display that was set up. I enjoyed spending time with the other students who worked at the table. We had fun discussing which week we enjoyed best. This helped to take the edge off because I was a little nervous about explaining SSI to the parents. One parent inquired about the age requirements for attendance. Having attended SSI for the last three years, I knew very well how the program worked and the parents were very receptive.

I took several breaks and was able to explore the other vendor tables, of which my favorite was the Creation Museum of Cincinnati. I also used my break to enjoy the snacks that were passed out to the vendors. Because there were several students tending the table, I did not answer as many questions as I thought that I would, but I enjoyed the experience.

After promoting SSI all day, I wished that it was time to attend SSI again. It a wonderful experience and I hope that I conveyed this message to the parents who visited the display table. As I cleaned up and prepared to leave, I knew that I would continue to promote SSI.
