Mission: Take Action - Letter to the Editor #1
Candidates vs. Media
Today, I was watching the News and with the presidential election less then a week away they were discussing the candidates. I wondered, why is it that when the media is talking about John McCain or Sarah Palin they are constantly bring them, or their campaigning, down? The main topic for this particular day was how much their, as in McCain/Palin, campaign had been spending on Palin’s wardrobe. She has spent $150,000 since accepting her roll as John McCain’s running mate in August of 2008. I will say that is a lot of money to spend on clothes; however, let us ask the media one question, say that Palin wore the clothes that she already owned, then would they leave her alone? No, they would not. They would rant on about how she was not dressed for success, or was no longer classy enough to be the potential Vice President. So, how is Palin suppose to win in a lose-lose situation?
Where is the money for Obama’s campaign going? Have we heard much on the news about the amount of money he has spent or how he has been spending the money? Sure, we might hear where his money has gone, but no matter how he spends it, it is always the “best” way according the media. But, is it really the most resourceful use of his money to bring the top singers to his speeches in order to boost his attendance? Perhaps he is trying to win their votes by giving them a free concert. When really, one should be looking at where he stands on his policies such as health insurance. Recently, the same plan that Obama supports just sent Hawaii plunging into debt. His plan that is supposed to help people out is to give those who do not have insurance, free health care. For the others who already have health insurance they will keep paying for it, out of there own pockets. Which sounds great, right? Other then the fact that those who do have insurance would leave there plans in order to be eligible for the free ones. This is exactly what happened in Hawaii. Everybody wanted free health care. So, who is to say it will work in the other forty-nine states?
Why is it that the media is all over McCain/Palin but not as much on Obama/Biden? Seldom do we ever hear about the problems in Obama’s campaign, but when ever McCain or Palin mess up one little thing it is all over the news. Obama claims that he supports fairness in our country. So, why is he not standing up for fairness in this situation? If he does not stand up for what he claims to support, now, in his campaign, how are we to trust that he will be fair if we elected him into the oval office?
