Mission: Research - Truth
What does truth mean today to our world? Our world today has defiantly changed the meaning, reason for truth, and how one can relate truth to there life. In the bible God explained truth clear and easy to us. The world today though enjoys making it what we want it to be and what they see or think is easiest for them. As Christians we need to know what it says in the bible about truth.
Truth in the dictionary is described as "the body of real things, events, and facts" which is not wrong it is actually a very good definition. I believe the Bible states it better when Jesus is talking in the book of John.
"...I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 (NIV)
It is showing us that God is the real truth this is not the only place in the bible that it states that he is the truth Romans 3:4. In this specific verse it is saying that God is true and we as people are liars. Over the years there has been a building confusion about truth. Now when people hear the word truth they think of not telling a lie which is also truth. The real truth is God. He should be the first one we think about when someone is talking about truth. He, God is the real truth.
Why is it a big deal if we really know that God is truth? In the book of John, Jesus is talking to the Jews and he says,
"...If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:31-32 (NIV)
So who is truth in this verse are they talking about the truth that the dictionary defines for us? Or is it the real truth that it talks about in John 14:6? Well, it is the real truth. John 8: 31-32 is telling us that if we know him he will set us free. "Set us free from what?" One may ask. He will set us free from the world to be able to spend eternity with him up in heaven. He is the only way because we as human have a sinful nature as it says in 1 John,
"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." - 1 John 1:8
We need to make sure that we are living in truth everyday of our life. 2 John 4 tells us we are commanded to walk in the truth. Because when we do walk in truth it tells us in 3 John 4, that God gets no greater joy.
"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." 3 John 4
Even though sometimes it might be easier for us to do what Paul talks about in Romans 1:25 to exchange truth of God for the lies? And it talks about something similar in 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 but we must stay away from doing what these verses are talking about. 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us that we should be able to stand before God with the word of truth in us.
So there is a difference in the truth you learn about when one is five years old and the real truth also known as God. God wants us all to know the truth as it says in 1 Timothy 2:3-4. We must know the meaning of truth, the reason for truth and how to relate truth to our lives.
