Mission: Letter to the Editor #3

Submitted to the Lansing State Journal

Dear Editor:

The music scene in Lansing is in dire need of some mid-sized venues. There are plenty of small venues- Mac's Bar, Small Planet, a new place called the Loft in downtown Lansing- just to name a few. Are there any mid-sized venues? No. Not one. There is a huge spectrum of bands that are not popular enough to play in the large venues, but definitely big enough to not play in the small venues. The decision those bands have to make is one of two things: stop by Lansing on their tour and play in a smaller venue than they should, or just skip Lansing because there isn't a mid-sized venue that they ought to play in. I believe that there should be at least 2 to 3 good sized venues so that bands want to come to Lansing to play. Since MSU's campus is close by, there's going be an audience for almost any type of music. This would be a great community investment. Let's bring Lansing's music spirit back to life!
