Mission: Letter to the Editor #5
Submitted to the Lansing State Journal
Dear Editor:
Important lessons can be learned from what happens to countries that long ago tread the road we recently paved during the passage of the federal healthcare bill.
Spending a summer in London, England I saw what government healthcare looks like:
- Swine flu patients don’t see a doctor – they call a hotline;
- Younger women don’t receive breast cancer screenings that could save their life; and
- Elderly patients are denied necessary treatment.
The really crucial thing to know, however, is the devotion people have for the system. While today this is a Republican versus Democrat issue, tomorrow all politicians will defend it.
Therefore, as the morning dew of government-run healthcare begins to settle on us, we must now ask ourselves whether we are still the people who turned the Boston Harbor into tea, or if the circle has completed and we are now the British.
Sincerely,
Luke W.
