Volunteer Opportunities
For the MISSION: TAKE ACTION assignment, you have to complete ten hours of volunteer work for a community service non-profit organization. Check your local shelter/soup kitchen and volunteer on Christmas and New Year's, as they often need help this time of year. You can also use online resources like www.christianvolunteering.org and www.volunteermatch.org to find information on organizations and volunteer opportunities in your area.
SSI is hosting OnSites throughout the school year at various locations around the state. We are in need of volunteers to assist
first-time students in caucus meetings and other various duties. Please email Jeff Visscher
at jeff@ssi-online.org if you are able to help. You can see the list of scheduled OnSites here.
There’s always some project going on around our office; preparing Onsite materials, preparing mailings, helping at an event. If you want to
get in your volunteer hours for a non-profit organization this would work great. Email or call
Sherrel at 877-464-6388 to find out what times and dates work best.

Michigan Trial Court Directory by County
Find contact information and Judge listings for every court in Michigan, so you can find out what trials are open for you to observe.
Michigan School Districts
This is NOT a complete list, but it's the most extensive list that we could find easily in one place. If what you're looking for isn't here, just google your school name and you should find a website that will lead you to school board contact and meeting info.
Michigan Libraries
Search for your city or county to find any libraries in your area. Clicking on a link for one of the results will get you contact information for that library, so you can find out if they have board meetings.
Michigan Counties
Find your county website to track down a list of your county commissioners and their meeting schedule.
Michigan Townships
Find your Town's contact information and website here, so you can contact a town councilperson or find out when town meetings will be held.
Michigan Cities and Villages
Find your Village's or City's contact information and website here, so you can contact a councilperson or find out when council meetings will be held.
Mission Hints
Legislative Session: To find out when the House and Senate are in session, visit
www.legislature.mi.gov and
click on the Session Schedules link in the left-hand column. When you plan your visit, call ahead and see if you can meet with your
Representative or Senator or even job-shadow them. Even if you don’t job-shadow them, you could interview them and complete a different
assignment.
Observe a Local Meeting & Interview a Local Leader: Most school boards, city councils and county commissions have regular monthly meetings. Why
not set aside one evening to attend a meeting? You can also interview one of the members and complete two assignments on the same night.
