I am thrilled to report that the total student enrollment for all three weeks exceeded last year's numbers - something we worked and prayed hard for all year!!
Week Three was unique since the Business and Judicial advanced tracks had already taken place in weeks one and two, leaving a smaller number of students. Still, the Legislative track (House and Senate), coupled with the Media track, served up an intense, exciting, fun and challenging week for everyone involved.
We were especially blessed to have two of our alumni from the late 1990's return to address the students on Wednesday evening. Nate Kaczmarek and Lisa Graff both gave inspiring testimonies about the effect of SSI in their lives. Nate Kaczmarek is currently running for Mayor of St. Clair Shores and Lisa Graff has been working for the Federalist Society in Washington, D.C. and will be entering Law School this fall. Alumni speaking to students was a first in the history of SSI, but judging by the response of the students, I'm sure we've begun a new tradition.
One of the unique aspects of SSI is that students actually read about themselves in a daily newspaper and watch themselves on the SSI News. As you can imagine, the "press" becomes a huge topic of conversation among the students and serves to make the role-playing seem even more real! I could take the time to describe everything that occurred, but the SSI Media students did a great job telling the story. I encourage you to take a few moments and watch the Nightly News program and read a few of the Newspapers produced during Week Three.
