OnSite Report
The Potter's House & Northpointe Christian On-Site, January 10-12, 2007, at Cornerstone University
Over 60 students from Northpointe Christian School and The Potter's House Christian Schools took the oath of office as members of the Michigan legislature in preparation for three days of intense debate over the issues of the day. This was our 4th annual program with NorthPointe and the third time for The Potter's House. It is truly an honor to have the privilege of working together with these schools as they invest in the lives of their students. We are also indebted to Dr. Rex Rogers and Cornerstone University for allowing us to utilize their wonderful facilities.
One of the best aspects of SSI is the tremendous participation of community leaders. The students tell us that their presence during the legislative simulation really makes it feel like the real thing and greatly increases the learning process.
Dave Anderson, the government teacher at NorthPointe, said, "It was a tremendous learning experience. As a government teacher, I appreciated the number of legislators who participated. Also, the professional people who role-played as lobbyists were very convincing in pressing home their views. It was like being in a legislative hearing."
As a special treat, we were thrilled to have Dick DeVos stop by on the last day for an impromptu chat with the students. His message about the importance of obedience and having a servant's heart really came through and reinforced the principles we seek to instill in the lives of young people.
Thank you to everyone who gave of their time, talent and resources to make this On-Site Program possible!!
- James Muffett, SSI Founder & President
