OnSite Report

Northpointe and Tri-Unity Schools, January 9-11, 2008

Once again, we are indebted to Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids for hosting our first Onsite of the year. This is actually our fifth consecutive January event at the university, and their gracious hospitality is a wonderful blessing. This year, students from Northpointe Christian and Tri-Unity Christian were joined by some Grand Rapids area homeschoolers for another successful and intense three-day program. I want to give special thanks to Dave Anderson at Northpointe, Trish Hilgendorf at Tri-Unity, and Sherri Dee, a home school mom, for their assistance. It was a great joy to work with both of these exemplary teachers who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the lives of young people. As usual, we were also joined by an outstanding group of community leaders, including current State Representatives Tom Pearce and Kevin Green, and former State Representatives Joanne Voorhees, Harold Voorhees, Jack Horton and Walt Delange.

Although Northpointe Christian School cancelled classes for the final day of the Onsite due to bad weather, the majority of their students still showed up! It was amazing to see them on their cell phones calling their caucus members and urging them to come. We took that as a great compliment and vote of confidence, since they could have all just stayed home. Instead we learned - at least for this Onsite - that neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow can stop SSI!

This Onsite event was made possible through the generosity of the following friends and supporters.

• SSI Board Member Dan Wiersma of Oxford Partners, LLC. 616-575-6545
• Attorney Jack Boyko of Damon, Ver Merris, Boyko & Witte
• Dave Vandebunte, owner of Vandebunte Eggs
• Wally and June Blume, owners of Moosetracks Ice Cream
