OnSite Report

Potter's House School and Area Homeschoolers, January 14-16, 2008

We've successfully completed our second Onsite Program of 2008! That's two Onsites in two weeks! Whew, it felt almost like the Summer Program there for a minute. Once again, we were privileged to work with a great group of young people, including some local home school students. The intensity was high, the debate was exhilarating and yes, the learning curve was steep!! We were especially blessed to be joined by State Senator Bill Hardiman, State Representative Glenn Steil, Jr., Kent County Commissioner Harold Voorhees, and Wyoming City Council member Kent Vanderwood.

Although this was our 4th program with The Potter's House, it was the first time we've had the privilege of collaborating with Calvin College. I want to express my gratitude to Corwin Smidt, a Calvin College Professor of Political Science and the Director of the Paul B. Henry Institute, who in addition to being committed to the Study of Christianity and Politics, is also a great friend and SSI Advisory Board Member. Over the years, Dr. Smidt has written many books, at least one of which included some information about my work with Citizens for Traditional Values in Michigan. Dr. Smidt was a big help in securing the Campus Chapel and also helped offset the costs of our being there.

Let me also take a moment to tell you about Sara Sisco, the Potter's House government teacher. She is awesome! We first met her a few years ago through the Onsite Program, and immediately realized that we shared a common vision. That led to her being a chaperone for SSI Summer 2006 and continuing to be a cheerleader for the SSI Program. She pours her life into her students, and you can feel her passion for them and their futures. She wrote a great letter of endorsement that you can read here.
