OnSite Report

Franklin Road Christian School

November 8 & 9, 2010

Final Legislative Session

On November 8-9, we were excited to conduct another Onsite Program for nearly 50 students at Franklin Road Christian School! The positive feedback from students, teachers, administrators and parents affirmed that this was another highly successful program. Challenging, rewarding, inspiring and yes FUN, are all words used by the students to describe their experience.

Over and over again, we’ve been told that these young people learn more about civics and citizenship in our two-day Onsite Program than from all the books they’ve read on the subject. That is because the best way to learn it is to do it!

James with several SSI Summer Alums

It is especially gratifying when SSI alumni give back to the program in various ways. Kristina Cherniausky, one of last year’s Ambassador League students, volunteered to help both days with administrative tasks, mentoring student “Legislators” and lobbying for the Committee Meetings. Kristina said that SSI was such a blessing to her that she wants to help others have the same experience. She was joined in the lobbying role by SSI alumnus Simeon Kraft and—for the first time in SSI history—Sandy and Danny Peterson, who formed a mother/son SSI alumni tag team for one of the bills.

Many thanks to all of our volunteers, especially Fred Kummer for going the extra mile as always! And special thanks also to Amanda Townsend and all the FRCS staff for their dedication to the next generation and for rolling out the red carpet for us! It was a joy to join with them in making eternal investments in the hearts and minds of their students.
