OnSite Report

Over 40 high school students took the oath of office to become State Representatives as a part of our annual pilgrimage to The Potter’s House School. Two days of intense caucus meetings and a real-world Legislative Committee Hearing were followed by persuasive speeches on the House Floor. Through the hands-on simulations, multi-media instruction and adult mentoring, this unique learning experience is one that helps young people gain a better grasp of their role as Christians in society.

Special thanks are due to former State Senator Bill Hardiman who not only chaired one of the committees but also spoke to the students afterward. His words confirmed our message (Ephesians 2:10) that we must see ourselves as God’s "special project" and that we are here to do the good works that He has already prepared for us to walk in.

We were also blessed, once again, to have two of our SSI alumni, Skyla Rienstra and Kjh-lajhni Sanford helping as volunteers and as lobbyists for the committees. And, of course, we must mention Sara Sisco, the outstanding Government teacher at The Potter’s House School. You can tell that she has these young people in her heart and is committed to their success.

It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of students and to know that we are making eternal investments in the next generation!
