Track Eligibility Requirements

In general, any high school-aged student is eligible to attend the Summer Program. Students entering high school in the upcoming fall or who just graduated in the spring are also eligible to attend.

Eligibility for each track is as follows:

Legislature Track (House and Senate) - available all 3 weeks

All students are eligible to participate in the Mock Legislature track. It is available all three weeks. First-year* students will automatically be members of the House, and returning second-year students who are freshman or sophomores will be Senators.

Additionally, first-year* students who have fully participated (were not absent for any part) in an Onsite Program may be members of the Senate instead of the House, as they have already participated in a Mock Legislature once at the Onsite.

Business Track - available week 1 only

To qualify, you must be either: 1) returning for your 3rd year or more, OR 2) a 2nd-year student entering your Junior or Senior year of high school.

Judicial Track (Mock Trial OR Moot Court) - available week 2 only

To qualify, you must be either: 1) returning for your 3rd year or more, OR 2) a 2nd-year student entering your Junior or Senior year of high school.

Campaign Track - available week 3 only

To qualify, you must be either: 1) returning for your 3rd year or more, OR 2) a 2nd-year student entering your Junior or Senior year of high school.

Media Track - available all 3 weeks

To qualify, you must be either: 1) returning for your 3rd year or more, OR 2) a 2nd-year student entering your Junior or Senior year of high school.

In addition, because of the high demand for the Media Track and the skills required to complete the track, an application process is also included. Once we have received your registration, you will be emailed a link to the application, and after completing the application, you will be contacted by the SSI office.

In other words...

First-year* students will be members of the House of Representatives in the Mock Legislature Track, unless they have fully participated in an Onsite program. In this case, they may participate as Senators.

Second-year* students will be Senators in the Mock Legislature Track, UNLESS they are entering their Junior or Senior year in high school. In that case, they are eligible and may participate in the Business, Mock Trial, Moot Court, Campaign or Media tracks if space allows when the registration is received at SSI.

Third-year, fourth-year, & fifth-year* students have the option of participating in any track, although the Advanced tracks are expected to fill quickly, as a limited number of spaces are available in each track.

*Note: First-year students are those attending SSI's Summer Program for the first time. Second-year students are attending the Summer Program for the second time, and so on. It does not pertain to what high school year you're entering, or whether you attended the Onsite Program.
